Hanmer Springs is a popular destination for tourism and recreation. One can indulge in numerous activities within this alpine village such as soak in the hot pools, ski, bike through the forest, play golf or simply walk. Our work on enhancing the roading, streetscape and open space pattern of the town resulted in better defined spaces and circulation. It achieved several objectives of reducing the dominance of the roads, stronger pedestrian linkages between pools, town centre and Conical Hill, a village green for socializing and markets, continuing the oak planting for the main street, managing the mature grove of oaks, and creating a safe courtyard adjacent to the shops for alfresco dining and socializing.
