SH1 revegetation, Saltwater Creek

North Canterbury

This project involved revegetating a 0.5km length of State HIghway 1, near to the southern bank of Salt Water Creek. In addition, an existing narrow stream ran the length of the site collecting ground water from the surrounding landscape and runoff from the road. Planting flax and grasses enmasse resulted in a bold effect for the roadside while also serving practical purposes to slow runoff, assisting to regulate high flow rates and provide dense shelter and nesting habitat for various wetland bird species.
